SPORTS EXCELLENCE TRUST
SPORTS EXCELLENCE TRUST is a trust that was set up and registered on 15 August 2016 with the aim of raising funds and sponsorship for development and advancement of sports in Zimbabwe, and to ensure transparency and accountability in the management of the sponsorship.
To become a world class sports trust which provides quality services to local and international sports partners.
To enhance sponsor value, creating sponsor confidence and promote good corporate governance
*To identify, develop, nature and promote talent from grassroots level
*To promote, publicise, market and sponsor selected local and international commitments to be undertaken by the Zimbabwe sports teams.
*To support budgets for individual sportspersons, the local teams and national associations.
*To look after the interests of the sponsors and donors thereby creating a worthwhile value-proposition for the Sponsor involvement in the SPORTS’ commit
*To carry out any of the above objects either alone or in conjunction or association with or as agents of any other charitable or other body or for or in conjunction with the Government.
*To seek and accept donations or subscriptions and to raise and receive funds (whether in cash or in kind and whether movable or immovable property) for the purposes and objects of the Trust generally or for any one or more of the said objects
*To fundraise money for selected teams’ obligations both current and future.
*To merchandise the paraphernalia and Memorabilia for the benefit of the Trust.
BOARD OF TRUSTEES
Mr A.M Kamhunga Chairman
Albert is a business graduate from the University of Zimbabwe (1980), a Chartered Institute of Transport (CITL) member and an MBL graduate, UNISA (2008). He worked for the National Railways of Zimbabwe in various spheres of rail operation, from graduate trainee in 1980 to the position of Assistant General Manager (operations and marketing) by the time of his departure in 1994. He played a major part in the successful commercialization of that institution in 1992 through a World Bank funded program.Albert joined Manica Zimbabwe Limited, a subsidiary of the Bidvest Group, in 1994 as divisional General Manager (Southern Region), progressing to Country General Manager in 1996, based in Harare and Divisional Managing Director in 1999. He assumed position of Managing Director and board member of Manica Zimbabwe Limited in 2002. Albert is also a board member of SARA, an Association of all SADC railway organizations as well a member of the CZI committee on Domestic Procurement in the mining sector. He is past Chairman of CMED (Pvt.) Ltd, responsible for the commercialization of that erstwhile Government department. He is current chairman of ARKTRUST Investments, a family owned group of companies, and a member of SANTA (St Augustines Alumni, Penhalonga) of which he was founding chairman.
Mr H Shereni Vice Chairman
IN Zimbabwe he is a known as a defender, but in France — where he spent seven years of professional career — Harlington Shereni was revered as a defensive midfielder. Shereni was one of the most underutilised, but immensely talented players to ply their trade in some of Europe’s top leagues with just 23 Warriors caps. He spent 13 years in Europe, starting at Delemont in Switzerland and playing for French sides Istres FC, En Avant de Guingamp, FC Nantes and Strasbourg.At Nantes they made him captain and that’s where he would end his professional career with a loan spell at Strasbourg.
Mr V.W Mugwagwa Secretary
Vengayi Wellington Mugwagwa founded Sports Excellence Trust and registered it on 15 August 2016. Prior to forming the Trust, he worked as Marketing Manager at Zimbabwe Football Association, a football mother board in Zimbabwe from 2013 to June 2016. He was an ex official member of Zimbabwe Warriors Trust, a trust which was responsible for mobilising resources for Zimbabwe national teams and Golden Jubilee which was responsible for mobilising resources to celebrate ZIFA’s fifty years. He attended FIFA and CAF marketing and developmental programs whilst he was working for Zimbabwe Football Association. He left Financial Gazette in June 2013 to join Zimbabwe Football Association He joined Financial Gazette as Sales Executive in 2004 after the closure of Daily News in 2002.He also worked as Sales Executive for Daily News and Moto magazineHe is currently employed as Account Executive responsible for sports at Askeland Media. Mugwagwa is a holder of bachelor of Business Administration degree and several other marketing and sports management qualifications.
Ms R Chibaya Legal and PR Advocate
Rachel Chibaya is a reputable Legal Practitioner having been registered with the High Court and the Law Society of Zimbabwe. She has been in Private Practice since 2011.She is the Founding Partner at R. Chibaya Law Chambers and is responsible for drafting and court attendance in all courts in Zimbabwe, registration of securities as well as transfer of immovable properties and notaries. The dynamic young advocate has managed to run the firm into a medium size business within three years. She is an inspiration to youngpeople to start and excel in business without hesitation or fear. She strives to create opportunities for female interns by enrolling two female students every year on an attachment or internship through her organisation.Advocate Chibaya is biased towards Registration of Securities (Conveyancing and Notary) Civil, Labour, Corporate and Commercial Law matters. She has a strong passion for Family Law matters.She is a volunteer Legal Practitioner for Transparency International Zimbabwe (TI-Z), a nonprofit and nonpartisan system oriented local chapter of the International Movement Against Corruption. She is a member of the “test case” committee with Women and Law in Southern Africa and Education Trust (WLSA) an organisation advancing the rights and welfare of women and girls on Family Law disputes in Zimbabwe. She participates in pro-bono cases, which she handles through the High Court of Zimbabwe and various Non-governmental Organisations that represent Women’s Rights. She is also involved in Charity Golf Tournaments with Emerald Hill School of the Deaf and Children’s Home in her personal capacity.Advocate Chibaya took part in the drafting of the new Constitution of theRepublic of Zimbabwe in 2011 as a rappouter during consultation outreach program in the Manicaland Province of Zimbabwe.She is a hard working, self motivated and goal oriented individual. A proud mother of three; two girls and one boy, and is a Christian. She enjoys travelling during her spare time and is a fitness fanatic who trains with legallyfit, a team of local lawyers. She is a great personality with awesome ambition to attain the best and be a leader.

Ms N Avery Finance
Nyarai has 12 years Internal Auditing experience after having served her articles of clerkship with KPMG Chartered Accountants (Zimbabwe). She joined Meikles Limited in 2009 as the Audit Manager for the Hospitality division; and rose through the ranks to her current position as the Head of Group Audit since 2013. Nyarai is a holder of a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting Science with UNISA and is also a Certified Compliance Professional (2017) with the International Academy of Business and Financial Management (IABFM). She has recently completed her Master’s in Business Administration with the University of South Wales. Nyarai is a member of the Institute of Internal Auditors (Zimbabwe)’s Membership & Publicity Committee and is also an Associate Member of the Institute of Directors Zimbabwe. She is a Megafest Award holder after having been awarded winner in the Outstanding Leader in Accounting, Auditing and Investment category in 2016.

The Trust engaged PWC a duly registered firm in terms of the laws of Zimbabwe. The fund managers offer business advisory, fund management, accounting, and auditing services. Duties of the Fund management firm: Handle all the accounting and disbursement of funds on behalf of the Trust and ensuring that the trust accounts for all funds disbursed to it by donors and partners. Ensure that all disbursements by the trust are made against verified, relevant and authentic vouchers and that such disbursements are within the specific purposes covered by the agreement between the trust and the respective donor or partner. Develop an appropriate system for handling the requests and funds disbursements to the satisfaction of the Trust and donors or/ and partners. Provide accounting services to ensure proper accounting for all funds received and disbursed by the Trust. Work in liaison with the Trust’s appointed auditors at any given time. The mandate of PWC shall be limited to the funds generated and disbursed by the Trust.
