Real Madrid winger Gareth Bale will miss the game against Bayern Munich and possibly Barcelona after picking up a knock to his calf – as reported by Marca.
Zinedine Zidane won’t take any risks with the Welshman and is expected to turn to either Marco Asensio or Isco – both of whom have both been performing well of late – to deputise.
Marca reports that the return Champions League leg against Bayern will definitely be too soon for the player, and it remains to be seen whether he will make it back to play in the crucial El Clasico match the following weekend.
Bale sustained his injury against Bayern, which meant he couldn’t face Sporting Gijon on Saturday, leaving Isco to shine for los Blancos.
The Spaniard hit a brace, with one of those coming in injury time to keep Madrid’s title dreams very much alive.
Zidane could have a headache ahead of the second leg with Bayern after Isco staked his claim, with Lucas Vasquez also able to play in Bale’s position.
Real are gunning to be the first team in Champions League history to retain the trophy, after they triumphed over rivals Atletico Madrid on penalties in last year’s final.
Barcelona will have to beat their fierce rivals to have any chance of retaining their La Liga title this season, and hope Madrid slip up on the home straight.
