LONDON-Manchester City pipped Tottenham Hotspur to a 1-0 victory to return to the top of the Premier League table on Monday night.
Tottenham made one change which saw Moussa Dembele coming into the midfield for Harry Winks, while City made two in Raheem Sterling and Kyle Walker.
The Citizens wasted no time to go in front through Riyad Mahrez tapping home from close range following poor defending.
In light of a way back, Spurs tried to get a way back and shots from Harry Kane among others saw them coming closer just after 10 minutes.
Excellent goalkeeping at the near post from Hugo Lloris stopped Mahrez from getting his brace later on this after sustaining the spell of pressure from the home side.
Proactive action was required from Ederson to rush off his line to wipe out a chance from the feet of Kane after getting clear side of goal.
In the second half, a huge chance cropped up for City to go further in front when Bernardo Silva broke through only to his efforts wasted with a wayward shot Sterling from David Silva’s pass.
Just after the midway mark, brilliant movement from Sergio Aguero made room for himself after twisting inside the box only to fail finding the target from close range.
Spurs made the first change from the bench after Winks came on after 67 minutes for Eric Dier. The defending champions responded with their first within minutes as Kevin De Bruyne came on for Aguero, as the need for more goals became top priority.
With chances few and far between, Erik Lamela undoubtedly missed the Whites best chance when he blazed over the bar from just five metres after being found out by Dele Alli.
The late momentum from Spurs failed to bring forth any real threats to the Manchester side who marched to return to the summit of the Premier League. AFP
