Former Manchester City striker Wilfried Bony is heading for a fifth Africa Cup of Nations for Ivory Coast alongside a former Free States Stars goalkeeper Ali Badra within the final 23-man squad confirmed by head coach Ibrahim Kamara.
ony, 30, is currenly a free agent after the expiry of his contract with Swansea City last month but has played his way into the plans for Kamara after impressing in their recent friendly outings.
The robust forward who was part of the triumphant 2015 Nations Cup squad netted two goals in the 3-1 win over Comoros and received the nod alongside the likes of Nicolas Pepe and Wilfried Zaha.Amongst the players snubbed from the provisional squad include: goalkeeper Abdoul Karim Cisse, and France-based duo Abdoulaye Bamba and Ismael Diomande – who have been ruled out through injury. Deli Simona of Slavia Prague, Saint-Truiden’s Yohan Boli and Parma ace Gervinho are also notable omissions. The Elephants are grouped with Bafana Bafana, Morocco and Namibia in Group D and kickoff their campaign against Stuart Baxter’s side on June 24.
