It’s all systems go in Cyclone Idai football tourney

The tournament is being organised by the Sports Excellence Trust

IF THE excitement exhibited during the launch of the Sports Excellence Trust (SET) Cyclone Idai Football Tournament on October 5 is anything to go by, then this weekend’s opening matches will surely be a blast.

Sixteen teams-eight schools and eight community outfits-are ready to roll this weekend (October 19 and 20) in one of the biggest football tournaments in Chipinge this year that has been organised by SET with Platform for Youths and Community Development (PYCD), providing logistics.

The very fact that there were hundreds of people at the launch, representatives from the national association, ZIFA and the National Association of Secondary Heads (NASH), makes this tourney one to look forward to.

SET secretary Wellington Mugwagwa said: “We have come a long way in preparations for these games and we are happy that we have received the necessary support from all stakeholders.

“All that is left is for kick off this weekend and we are excited as SET about our objectives and the talent that will be on display.

“There will be top football scouts from around Zimbabwe gracing the finals, so we expect very competitive matches.”

The finals will be held on November 2 and 3 at Takwirira High School with trophies, uniforms, balls and other sports equipment on offer as prizes.
