FC Platinum drop points, Dynamos in scoreless draw

FC Platinum’s Castle Lager Premier Soccer League title charge suffered a setback on Wednesday after they were beaten 3-1 by Triangle at Gibbo Stadium.

Triangle were first on the score-sheet on the sixth minute through Kudzai Chigwida before Lameck Nhamo added the second in the 59th minute, while Pasca Manhanga sealed the win in the referee’s optional time.

Rodwell Chinyengetere scored the visitors’ consolation 15 minutes before time.

Triangle gaffer Taurai Mangwiro said he was happy with his side’s good showing.

“This was a tough match, we were playing against a good team I want to say well done to my team and tough luck to FC Platinum. They put up a good fight, but we scored at the right moments and they tried very hard in the second half to come back, but my boys played well,” he said

FC Platinum gaffer Norman Mapeza admitted that they lost to a good side and was already looking ahead to their match against Dynamos on Saturday.

“It was good match but we lost to a good side. They converted their chances and we failed. We are still in the race for championship and we are looking ahead of our match against Dynamos,” he said

Ngezi  Platinum Stars boosted their chances of clinching the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League title, following a professional 2-1  job over Caps United at the Baobab Stadium in Mhondoro-Ngezi.

A third-minute goal by Donald Teguru put the home side on their way, before a brilliant James Ngulube doubled the advantage on 66th minute.

Joel Ngodzo pulled one back from the penalty spot on 80th minute, but Ngezi Platinum Stars held on for the precious points, taking their points tally to 60, two behind FC Platinum, who were beaten away to Triangle.

Hosts coach Tonderai Ndiraya was a happy man at the final whistle, not just for bouncing back from two defeats in the team’s two previous matches, but for managing to get maximum points in a match that the visitors dominated for large periods.

“I’m quite happy and excited that we bounced back today, but I must admit that Caps were good. Clearly they were in control of the match, but we benefitted from scoring early and we had to manage the game. We had to dig deep to get a result.

“I hope this result will push us forward, it’s a very important result for us. We are now on the home stretch and we can’t afford to lose any points anymore. We will make sure that the next game (against Bulawayo City) we apply ourselves in the same manner we did today,” Ndiraya said.

A first half brace by Innocent Mucheneka condemned Chapungu into the relegation zone as Chicken Inn beat the airmen in a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match at Luveve Stadium on Wednesday.

Nichrut eased their relegation fears after thumping Harare City 3-0 at Ascot Stadium.

The first goal came on 49 minutes through Shepherd Sithole who capitalised on a mistake by Raymond Uchena.

Three minutes later, Munyaradzi Diro-Nyenye beat his own goalkeeper Ryan Harrison before Frankson Bushiri sealed the game two minutes into additional time.

Herentals steered themselves further from the relegation zone when they recorded an emphatic victory over army side Black Rhinos at the National Sports Stadium.

Brighton Majarira scored the first goal with a headed effort from a cross by Archmore Majarira. In the 20th minute, Archmore Majarira’s low shot saw Herentals doubled their lead.

The army side managed to cut the deficit as they pulled one back through substitute Edgar Chigiji in the 39th minute.

Herentals restored the two-goal cushion through Innocent Benza six minutes after the break. The fourth goal came after Achmore and Blessing Majarira combined again, this time with the latter turning provider.
