Europa: Giroud hattrick sees Blues progress

Chelsea, Napoli and Valencia all advanced to the quarter-finals of the UEFA Europa League following Thursday night’s early kick-offs.

Dynamo Kyiv 0-5 Chelsea

Chelsea handed Dynamo Kyiv a 5-0 thumping in the last 16 second-leg at the NSC Olimpiyskiy Stadium on Thursday.

After winning the first-leg 3-0 in London, Chelsea advance to the last eight with an 8-0 aggregate win.

Olivier Giroud was the star attraction with a hat-trick, with Marco Alonso and Callum Hudson-Odoi adding the other two goals to record the Blues biggest win in UEFA’s second-tier tournament.

FC Krasnodar 1-1 Valencia

Valencia sneaked into the last eight after a last minute leveller forced a 1-1 draw against Krasnodar to advance 3-2 on aggregate at the Krasnodar Stadium.

After winning the first-leg 2-1, Krasnodar looked to have sealed a spot in the next phase after going ahead five minutes from time through Magomed Suleymanov.

However, Goncalo Guedes had the final say as he netted in the dying seconds to send the Spanish side into the last eight.

Red Bull Salzburg 3-1 Napoli

Despite an impressive 3-1 victory, Salzburg failed to get past Napoli who advanced to the last eight with a 4-3 aggregate win.

Napoli took a 14th minute lead through Arkadiusz Milik to extend the lead to 4-0 in the tie.

The Germans reduced the aggregate score through Moanes Dabour, Fredrik Gulbrandsen and Christoph Leitgeb, but they were unable to bag more goals as Carlo Ancelotti’s advance in the tournament. Kickoff
