FC Barcelona have ended speculation around the future of Ernesto Valverde after announcing the LaLiga-winning coach has extended his contract, which was due to expire at the end of the season.
Despite Valverde’s success at the Camp Nou with a record of 65 wins, 22 draws and just nine defeats in 96 fixtures since his arrival, speculation has been rife about his future.
With his contract running out, reports in Spanish media claimed the Barca hierarchy were looking towards alternative options but this has since been quashed by their latest announcement.
“FC Barcelona and Ernesto Valverde, the first team coach, have reached an agreement to extend the contract between the two parties for another season (2019/20) with the option for one more (2020/21),” read a statement on the club’s website.
His first season in charge, Valverde won the domestic double and almost led the Blaugrana to become the first Spanish side to achieve an undefeated season – with only Levante defeating his side late into the campaign. Agencies
